What happens from your first message to your first session, and what the first fifty minutes are like.
From a message to a first session
Most people have their free call within two working days and a first session within two weeks (sample).
1
Send the form or call
Tell us a little about what you are looking for and when we can reach you. A sentence is enough.
2
A free 15-minute call
One of our therapists calls you back within two working days (sample) to answer questions and check we are a good fit.
3
Your first session
Fifty minutes, at the practice or online. It is mostly about getting to know you and what you would like to change.
4
Decide together
If it feels right, you book regular sessions. Most people meet weekly or every two weeks; you can stop at any time.
In crisis, or thinking about suicide? Call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) at any time. In an emergency, call 911. We are not an emergency service and cannot answer messages out of hours.

Arriving
We say hello, sit down and go through privacy: what stays in the room and the rare times it cannot.
5–30 min
What brings you here
You talk about what is going on, in your own order. The therapist listens and asks a few questions.
30–42 min
What you would like to change
Together you put into words what would be different if therapy helped.
42–50 min
Questions and next steps
Your questions, the fees, and whether to meet again. There is no pressure to decide on the day.
50–60 min
Notes and changeover
The therapist writes notes. Appointments are spaced so you never wait with the next person.
What to bring
Nothing to prepare. A few things make the first session easier.
A rough idea of what you would like help with, even if it is only a feeling
The names of any medicines you take
Your insurance card, if you plan to claim
Questions for the therapist: about them, the method, or the fees
