Medicines and home care: what carers can do

Families often ask whether carers can help with medicines. The answer depends on the care plan and the agency’s training (sample guide).
Our carers remind clients to take medicines and can help open labelled packs prepared by the pharmacist, as written in the care plan. They note each reminder in the care folder.
They do not decide doses, give injections or change medicines. For questions about the medicines themselves, ask the pharmacist or the doctor.
