Three copies, two kinds of media, one off site

Keep three copies of the data you cannot lose, on two kinds of media, with one copy away from the building (sample note).

For most of our customers that is the live server, a nightly copy on drives in the other hall, and a weekly tape that leaves the site.

The rule says nothing about testing, so add one more: restore one file every month, and write down how long it took.
