Taking on two new projects from January (sample)

About Juno Hale

Independent product designer in Springfield (sample). Ten years of kettles, lamps, lights and tools, most of them still on sale.

I like the ugly models best

I spent six years in the design team of a small appliance maker (sample), then went independent in 2019. Since then I have designed around thirty products for brands with five to five hundred people.

The part of the job I enjoy most is the middle: the foam blocks and the taped-up rigs that show what is wrong while it is still cheap to fix. A product that needed nine models is not a failure. A product that reached the factory with an open question is.

How I work

Three habits that keep projects on time and products buildable.

One question per model

Every model has a tag that says what it is testing. When the answer is in, the model has done its job.

The factory early

I talk to your supplier from the foam stage, so the shapes we fall in love with are shapes a tool can make.

You see everything

Weekly photos of the bench, every sketch and every file. If you stop after concept, all of it is yours.

Experience

Where I learned the trade, in order (sample).

2009 to 2013

Industrial design degree

Final project: a folding step stool, from card models to a working prototype in birch ply (sample).

2013 to 2019

Designer, then senior designer, at a small appliance maker

Kettles, toasters and hand blenders, and three years working with factories on tooling and samples (sample).

2019 to now

Hale Product Design

Independent studio and workshop at Canal Works: appliances, lighting, bike and outdoor products (sample).

Questions clients ask

Yes. About half of my clients are making their first product. We start with a short concept stage, so you have models and renders to show investors or a crowdfunding page.

You do. Once the stage is paid, the drawings, models and files belong to you (sample terms).

I can introduce you to suppliers I have worked with, but the contract is between you and them. I review the samples on your side.

Yes, before the first call if you like. Projects only appear here once they are on sale and the client agrees.

Have a product to make?

Send a few lines about it. Juno replies within two working days (sample) and books a free 30-minute call to talk through the first models.
