The hill, row by row
The farm is planted in blocks by age, so the trees ready this year are always together. Maps at the gate show which rows are open.
Ten years for one tree
A 7 ft Nordmann fir is about ten years old. This is what happens on the hill before you cut it.
Seedlings
Planted by hand in spring, 6 ft apart, in rows that follow the slope.
Weeding and mowing
Sheep graze between the rows; we mow the rest twice a summer.
Shaping
Each tree is trimmed by hand in July to give it the Christmas shape.
Your tree
Tagged in autumn, cut in December, replaced by a seedling in spring.
Choose and cut on the hill
Walk the rows, pick your tree and we lend you a saw, or choose one already cut in the barn. We shake it, net it and help tie it to your roof.
Opening days (sample). Last entry to the hill one hour before closing.
Evenings and delivery
On Friday evenings the hill is lit with lanterns until eight. On weekdays we bring trees to homes, offices and shops and set them up in the stand.
