Remediation and verification
The plan to deal with what was found, agreed with the council, and the proof that it was done.
Ways to deal with what was found
The strategy picks the simplest option that makes the site safe for its new use (sample options).
Dig out and replace
Contaminated soil removed to a permitted site and replaced with tested clean soil
Clean cover
600 mm of tested clean soil over the made ground in gardens and play areas, with a marker layer
Treat on site
Hydrocarbons broken down in a treatment bed on site, then reused under roads
Gas protection
A membrane and venting under the new buildings where ground gas was found
The verification report
The last step: it shows the council that the strategy was carried out, so the planning condition can be discharged.
- Photos of every stage, with dates and locations
- Depths of clean cover checked in hand pits
- Test certificates for imported soil
- Waste transfer notes for the soil taken away
- Membrane installation records
