Choosing a size for a commission

A painting usually looks right when it fills about two thirds of the width of the furniture under it, or about half of a bare wall.
Hang it with its centre at about 145 cm from the floor, the height galleries use. Above a sofa, leave a hand’s width between the frame and the back of the sofa.
If you are not sure, cut a sheet of newspaper to the size and tape it to the wall for a few days.
