What to pack for a nine-day tour, in one suitcase

Most of our travellers bring too much. On a tour with three hotels you unpack three times, so a light bag makes every move easier (sample advice).
Pack layers rather than a heavy coat, one pair of walking shoes you have already worn in and one pair for the evening. A small day pack carries water, a rain jacket and the guide’s notes.
Leave room for what you buy on the way. Cork, tiles and tea travel well; bottles of oil are better posted home.
