Breast surgery
Enlargement, uplift and reduction: three different operations with their own scars and recovery.
Enlargement scar to scale
The cut for implants sits in the fold under the breast, so it is mostly hidden when standing.
Typical scar length, drawn to scale (sample)
Centimetres, 0 to 35. Your surgeon draws your own plan.
Breast augmentation
4 to 5 cm each side, in the fold under the breast
Scar drawn to scale: 4 to 5 cm each side, in the fold under the breast
Violet dashed line: the typical scar, to scale
Pale violet: how much longer it can be
Green underline: it sits in a natural crease, fold or hairline
Three operations, three scar patterns
Enlargement, uplift and reduction are different operations. The consultation starts with what bothers you, not with a size.
Silicone implants placed behind the breast or the chest muscle, through a 4 to 5 cm cut in the fold. About 90 minutes, general anaesthetic.
Skin removed and the breast raised. A scar around the areola, often down to the fold as well.
Breast tissue and skin removed. An anchor-shaped scar: around the areola, down, and along the fold.
Implants are not for life
Many people need further surgery on an implant at some point; your surgeon explains how often and why.
Book a first consultation
Sixty minutes with the surgeon who would operate. Nothing is booked on the day, and the fee is taken off the surgery fee if you go ahead (sample).
