Practice note: ventilation and damp in older houses

Many damp complaints in older houses trace back to air bricks and vents that have been blocked or painted over (sample note).

Before recommending treatment, record every vent, check that air moves through it and note any later floor or path that sits above it. A photograph of each vent makes the report easier to follow.
