Soldering a chain: what happens at the bench

A snapped chain usually breaks at one link, often next to the clasp (sample note). We find the open link and lay the chain flat on a soldering block.
A tiny piece of solder goes in the gap, and a fine flame melts it into the link without touching its neighbours. Then the chain goes in a warm pickle to clean it and onto the polishing wheel.
Most chain repairs take a few days because we batch them, but if you need it sooner, ask at the counter.
