The shop

A jewellery shop and workshop in a yard off Cutler Street, Springfield (sample): two benches, one counter, and a loupe for anyone who asks.

Why we show you the marks

We opened in a former watch repairer’s in 2014 (sample). In the first year, the question we heard most was not about price: it was what a ring was actually made of.

So we started reading the marks with every customer, under the loupe, before talking about anything else. Gold plate and solid gold can look the same on the counter. The number inside the band is what tells them apart.

What goes into a piece

  • Recycled silver and gold where we can buy it, from a refiner who tells us where it came from
  • Solid metal only: no plated, filled or vermeil pieces on the tray
  • Stones bought loose, so we can see each one before it is set
  • Old gold and old stones can be melted down and re-made into something you will wear
