How we test
The same four steps for every product, so reviews stay comparable across the year.
How we test a gadget
Every review on Regadget Daily (sample) follows the same four steps, so a phone tested in spring can be compared with one tested in autumn. Nobody pays for a review, and no maker sees it before you do.
1
Buy or borrow
We buy most products. Borrowed review samples go back after the test, and we say so.
2
Live with it
Two weeks of normal use: the commute, the desk, the weekend, the charger we forgot.
3
Measure
Battery to empty, screens in daylight, noise on the same train line, flights in the same field.
4
Write the verdict
Recommended, good with caveats, or skip it, in words, with who it is for.
What the verdict words mean
We do not give scores out of ten. Every review ends in one of three verdicts, with who the product is for.
Recommended
Does what it promises for most people at its price.
Buy it
Good with caveats
Right for some people; the review says who.
Read first
Skip it
Something else does the job better, or a fix is due.
Not now
Every Friday
The Friday letter
Five launches worth your time and one long test, in one email before the weekend (sample).
