Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
Fixed, tracker or variable
Whatever the mortgage, the deal sets how your interest is worked out for the first years. We explain the trade-off for your case; there is no right answer for everyone.
Fixed
The payment stays the same for two, five or ten years, then the deal ends.
Tracker
The rate follows the central bank rate plus a set margin, so payments can rise or fall.
Lender's variable rate
What most mortgages move to when a deal ends. The lender can change it at any time.
Offset
Savings held with the lender reduce the interest you pay, while staying in your name.
Questions about mortgages
Does a broker cost more than going to my bank?
Our fee is shown before you commit (Example prices). Some deals are only offered through brokers and some only direct; we tell you when a lender’s own deal would suit you better.
Will the first call affect my credit file?
No. Nothing is searched until you agree. Before an agreement in principle we tell you whether the lender runs a soft or a full search.
Can you help after a missed payment or a default?
Often there are lenders who look at the whole picture. We cannot promise an outcome: every lender makes its own decision.
How long does it take?
From first call to mortgage offer usually takes three to six weeks (sample). Completion depends on the sale and the solicitors.
