Five things to photograph before you need to claim

Insurers ask for proof of what you owned. A few photos taken today make that easy (sample note).

Walk through the house and photograph each room, the serial numbers of electronics, jewellery and watches, bikes, and the receipts for anything expensive.

Keep the photos somewhere other than the phone: an email to yourself is enough. Then tell your adviser if any single item is worth more than your policy’s limit.
