Layering for winter walks

Think in three layers: a cotton bodysuit or vest, a merino or fleece middle layer, and a showerproof coat or snowsuit on top.
Take the outer layer off in the car seat and in shops. Babies and toddlers overheat quickly indoors, and car seat straps should sit close to the body.
A hat and mittens matter more than an extra jumper. Check warmth at the back of the neck, not the hands.
