No. 148: Garlic in, tomatoes out

The tomatoes came out on Saturday, green fruit and all, and forty cloves of garlic went into the same bed (sample entry).
Garlic wants cold to split into cloves, so it goes in before the first frost and comes out in July. I plant it pointy end up, a hand’s width apart, and cover it with the leaves I raked off the path.
The green tomatoes are on the kitchen windowsill. Half will ripen; the other half are next week’s chutney, which may become No. 149.
