The three results
Pass
A certificate for twelve months.
Pass with advisories
A pass, plus items to watch, such as tyres near the limit. We price them; you decide.
Fail
A major or dangerous fault. We show you the fault, price the repair and retest free once it is fixed here.
What happens in the bay
The tester drives the car onto the brake rollers, checks the lights with the beam setter and goes underneath on the ramp. You can watch from the viewing window.
What to bring
- The car, with enough fuel for the emissions test
- The locking wheel nut key
- The last MOT certificate if you have it (not required)
MOT questions
When is my MOT due?
Three years after the car was first registered, then every year. The date is on your last certificate, and you can test up to a month (minus a day) early without losing time.
Can I drive away after a fail?
Only if the old certificate is still valid and there are no dangerous faults. With a dangerous fault the car stays here or goes home on a trailer.
Do you fix what fails?
Yes, if you want us to. We price each item first. Once the repair is done here, the partial retest is free within ten working days.
How long does it take?
About an hour. Saturday mornings are kept for MOTs and tyres.
